The first All-NJAC first team player from Rutgers-Newark in the millennium, former Scarlet Raider third baseman Jen Raido gives head coach Patty Clarke an insider’s view of the softball program, the athletic department and the college community.
The energetic former team captain and the Rutgers-Newark Female Athlete of the Year for 2007-2008, Raido is the career record holder for hits (164), runs (101), doubles (19), triples (19) and total bases (239) after starting all 151 games in her sparkling four-year stint in the hot corner.
She led the Raiders in hitting in each of her first three seasons, finishing her career with a .347 batting norm and a .441 slugging percentage. She stole 25 bases in 32 attempts. She also was an outstanding fielder.
Raido set the school single-season record with 53 hits during a spectacular junior season that culminated in her being named to the All-NJAC first team. She also was honored as Rutgers-Newark’s 2007 National Girls & Women In Sports Woman of the Year.
