Natascha Alves was the first of five Rutgers-Newark finishers as the Scarlet Raiders competed in the Belmont Classic on Belmont Plateau in Fairmont Park.
2009 Belmont Classic Results
Alves finished 55th in a field of 92 runners with a time of 25:35.75 on the 5-kilometer course.
Junior
Selamawit Rutty ran a 28:42.72 to finish second among Raider runners, just ahead of first-year runner
Ania Shiyanova who clocked a time of 29:38.41.
Rounding out the Rutgers-Newark runners scoring in the meet were
Saymah Nah (32:06.82) and
Krissy Arias (38:05.26).
The Rutgers-Newark women and men return to Philadelphia next Saturday to compete in the Cabrini Invitational on the Belmont Plateau.
