NEWARK, NJ – Junior forward Deshawn Singleton and freshman guard Jared Tactuk were named the Rutgers-Newark Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively, to highlight the annual Scarlet Raiders Awards Dinner in the Paul Robeson Campus Center.

Nearly 300 attended the annual dinner, including Chancellor Steven Diner who helped present the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award to soccer's Mike Svec. The women's recipient of the award, Sasha Potter of the women'soccer, squad, did not attend.

Rookie of the Year honors went to men's basketball's Greg Moore and women's soccer's Liana Abreu.

Rutgers-Newark Appreciation Awards went to Ben Badua, Assistant to the Athletic Director for Marketing and Advertising, and Matt Brenner, student producer of Raider Vision – the athletic department's on-line video showcase.

Each head coach honored his/her seniors and a Coaches Award winner. The Coaches Award to presented to the student-athlete who best exemplifies unselfish dedication to the team. The honorees, by sport, were:
