NEWARK, DE – Junior Tauqeer Qazi finished 25th in a competitive field of 66 runners to lead Rutgers-Newark in its cross country season opener at the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park.

Qazi clocked a time of 29:22.66 to finish ahead of six other Scarlet Raider runners as Rutgers-Newark placed seventh among seven teams in the NCAA Division II-III section of the invitational meet.

First-year runner Mohamed Gadalla ran a 29:57.25 to finish 34th ahead of veterans DaQuan Bashir, Robert Ezewuiro, Peter Lake, Gerard Farao and Brian Barbera.

Rutgers-Newark competes in the Steven Invitational at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Friday at 4 p.m.
