NEW YORK & SPRINGFIELD, MA – Rutgers-Newark’s women’s and men’s 4 x 200-meter relay teams turned in school-record and ECAC Indoor Championship qualifying times at the New Balance Invitational in the NYC Armory while other members of the squad competed in the Springfield Invitational.

Kenitra Washington combined for a time of 1:49.66 to punch a ticket to the ECAC Championships to shave six full seconds off of the previous school record. Nah, Farquharson and Washington were members of the unit which ran a 1:55.66 at the CTC Relay Carnival on December 6.

Corey Graves and
Kevon Brown posted a time of 1:32.22 in the men’s 4 x 200, cutting 6.30 seconds off the R-N record set in the 2008 CTC Indoor Championships.
In the Springfield Invitational, freshmen shot putters
Alisha Gray and
Naima Graham finished third and fourth, respectively, with best throws of 11.75 and 11.48 meters while freshman
Allie Ritchards took second in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters. Rookie sprinter
Megan Massey took fifth in the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 7.98.
On the men’s side, freshman
Tcahz Amevor lowered the school record in the 3000-meter run to 90:41.50 to edge senior
Robert Ezewuiro for eighth place in the field of 15 runners. Ezewuiro clocked a 9:41.82, also better than the previous record of 9:48.33 set by
Tauqeer Qazi in the 2008 Gotham Cup. Amevor also scored points by finishing third in the mile run in a personal best time of 4:44.30.
Rutgers-Newark is slated to compete in the CTC Indoor Championships on Saturday in the Bacon Field House on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.
