NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark senior middle hitter
Jon Keller has been named the EIVA Hay Player of the Week after hitting .700 in a pair of road wins over NJIT and George Mason.
The Scarlet Raiders (5-9, EIVA Hay 4-0) ran their win streak to four straight and snapped a 5-match losing streak in 5-set matches as Keller averaged 4.31 points, 2.88 kills and 1.88 blocks per set. He hammered down 23 kills with just two errors on 30 swings while getting in on a total of 15 blocks.
In a 3-0 sweep of NJIT, Keller had nine kills and just one error on 12 swings while making a solo block and seven assisted blocks.
In Saturday's 3-2 come-from-behind win at George Mason, the senior hit .722 with 14 kills and one error on 18 attacks while adding three aces, a solo block and six assisted blocks.
He becomes the second consecutive EIVA Hay Player of the Week for the Raiders following the selection of junior setter
Jeff Zornig a week ago.
On the season, Keller ranks third in the league in hitting percentage (.424) and fourth in blocks (1.46).
Rutgers-Newark hosts NYU in an EIVA Hay match in The Golden Dome at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
