NEW YORK – Rutgers-Newark seniors
Deshawn Singleton and
James Johnson have been named to the 2010 All-Met Team by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
2010 All-Met Division III Men's Basketball Team
Johnson was named to the second team for the second straight time while Johnson earned third team honors. Both players had already earned 2010 All-Atlantic Region Division III second team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The duo were major cogs in the Scarlet Raiders' march to the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA D-III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. Rutgers-Newark notched a program record 20 wins behind Singleton, Johnson and four other seniors under ninth-year head coach
Joe Loughran.
Singleton, a 6-foot-4 power forward who became the 11th Scarlet Raider to score 1000 points in his career, and Johnson, a 5-foot-11 swing guard who led Rutgers-Newark in scoring with a 14.9 average, were also named to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference second unit released in February.
Singleton, who averaged 11.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, was an All-Atlantic first team pick in 2009 as well as an All-NJAC first teamer. Johnson earned post-season all-star honors for the first time in his career as a senior.
