NJAC Baseball Players Of The Week (May 3, 2010)
Junior shortstop Reitemeyer was named the NJAC Player of the Week while Cerruti earned his second consecutive NJAC Pitcher of the Week honor as they helped the Raiders clinch the third seed in the league championship tournament which begins tomorrow.
Rutgers-Newark hosts The College of New Jersey in a 3:30 p.m. game in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium to kick off play in the six-team, double-elimination playoff.
Reitemeyer hit .500 with 14 RBIs with two doubles, a triple and two home runs last week. His three-run home run in the seventh gave the Raiders their first lead of the game in a crucial 8-7 regular season ending win over Richard Stockton which secured home field advantage for the NJAC opening round.
Cerruti had his second straight shutout stint, blanking William Paterson on just six hits in seven innings to help the Raiders build an 8-0 lead. The Pioneers rallied to trim the final margin to 8-5, but the road victory on Thursday ignited Rutgers-Newark's run to the playoffs. The lefty has won three of his last four NJAC starts.
