ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Host North Carolina Wesleyan used strong midfield play to stop Rutgers-Newark, 6-1, in the opening match of the Roger Taylor Fall Classic on Scalf Field.

Mike Trenard in the 27th minute for the Scarlet Raiders' only tally which cut the Bishops' lead to 3-1 before the half.
But, Wesleyan dominated play in the second half, taking nine shots to the Raiders' three while adding three more goals.
Sophomore forward Irvin Herrera had a hand in each second-half tally scoring the fifth goal of the match while gaining credit for assists on the other two.

Jonathan Frances managed just two saves while allowing the six Bishop goals while Wesleyan's Javier Hernandez made two saves.
The Raiders (1-1) face Randolph College at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the tournament's final match while New Jersey City takes on Wesleyan in the noon opener.
