ROCHESTER, NY – Oneonta State rallied for a pair of late goals to deny Rutgers-Newark's bid to win the Flower City Tournament, 2-1, despite outstanding play by junior goalkeeper Kat Renteria

BOX SCORE & PLAY-BY-PLAY

After junior midfielder Liana Abreu gave the Raiders (2-1) a 1-0 edge with a goal in the 41st minute, Renteria kept Rutgers-Newark in the lead with several saves. Junior midfielder Camelia Valentin served a cross to Abreu to set up the Raider tally.

Oneonta leveled the score in the 70th minute on a sloppy clear by the Raider defense. Junior defender Dana DeSimone collected the loose ball and chipped a shot over Renteria at 69:47.

Tournament MVP DeSimone netted the game winner in the 81st minute by volleying in a header pass by sophomore forward Kayla Brantmeyer who redirected a throw in by senior defender Erin Boyle from deep on the left side. Renteria had no chance against the shot into the right side of the goal.

Renteria finished with six saves, including four the second half, while Oneonta keeper Jamie Chyat needed to make just two second-half saves to get the win.

Oneonta took 19 shots to the Raiders' six, and the Red Dragons forged a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Raider freshman forward Michelle Gromashchuk was named the tournament's Best Offensive Player after producing a hat trick in Rutgers-Newark's 4-2 win over Medaille in Saturday's opener.

The Raiders travel to Mount St. Mary on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match before hosting the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic on Friday and Saturday on Alumni Field.
