2014 Results

NEWARK, N.J. (June 24, 2015) –
Head Women's Volleyball Coach Jason Madsen released the 2015 Rutgers University-Newark schedule on Thursday morning.

The Scarlet Raiders will play 27 regular-season matches from September 1 – October 27 and will be hoping for a second-straight postseason appearance after going 17-12 in 2014 and reaching the semifinals of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro/Upstate Championship. Additionally, the Scarlet Raiders picked up their first ECAC win in 15 years with a 3-0 sweep of the College of New Rochelle.

"We are definitely looking forward to getting our season started after ending last year on a high note," said Madsen. "We had some ups and downs, but we bring back just about every player and each person seems ready to take that next step and get back to the NJAC playoffs for the first time in a while."

The Scarlet Raiders did not graduate a single player and will open their '15 slate in The Golden Dome Arena September 1 against Centenary College in the first of back-to-back-to-back matches. The next two days will feature road matches at the College of Saint Elizabeth and Brooklyn College as the Scarlet Raiders swept their three season-opening opponents in 2014.

Mount Saint Vincent will be the team's second home contest of the season on Tuesday, September 8, before three battles away from The Golden Dome Arena; at Pratt Institute, at Bryn Athyn and a neutral-site match against King's College (Pa.).

September 15 will be the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener for Rutgers-Newark against Kean University, and following a day off, the Raiders will welcome Baptist Bible to town for a non-conference tilt. Both teams defeated R-N at home last year, and the Raiders will be looking for revenge on their home court this time around.

A trio of NJAC matches are next as Rutgers-Newark visits Stockton University on September 22, returns home for Rutgers University-Camden on September 24, before taking to the road for a match at New Jersey City University September 29. R-N earned wins over both NJCU and Camden but dropped its match against NCAA Tournament participant Richard Stockton in 2014.

A four-match tournament hosted by Johnson and Wales University will open October for the Scarlet Raiders, doing battle against the University of Southern Maine and Bridgewater State University on October 2 and Rhode Island College and host J&W on October 3.

Rutgers will travel to Rowan University on October 6 looking to erase a tough 3-2 NJAC loss to the Profs last year, and the Scarlet Raiders will then come back to Newark for a three-game home stand; October 10 will be a non-conference tilt against Maritime College, October 13 will be an NJAC showdown against nearby Montclair State University and October 15 will be a visit to NJAC foe Ramapo College.

"The NJAC is a tough conference all the way down the line," commented Madsen. "We will be taking on some of the heavy hitters on the road, but I am confident we will be prepared to play in every match and give maximum effort throughout."

Out-of-conference home matches against Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) and Lehman College will take place around a non-conference road trip to St. Joseph's College (L.I.) from October 20-22, with a doubleheader set to take place against Sarah Lawrence College and Manhattanville College (at Manhattanville) on October 24. The only team R-N faced in 2014 was Sarah Lawrence who it defeated by a clean 3-0 margin.

Closing out the schedule will be William Paterson University in the NJAC and regular-season finale in 'The Dome' and that match will take place October 27.

"We have a lot of goals for the season, starting with getting back to the conference tournament after just missing last year," added Madsen. "I want to see us continue to play excellent defense, and I am looking forward to watching a talented incoming class mix with a very strong group of veterans to create a solid all-around team."
