NEWARK, N.J. (November 8, 2016) – Spearheaded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and senior baseball captain Josh Cote, Rutgers University-Newark is participating in the annual 'Cans Across the Conference' initiative run by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
 
The Department of Athletics is asking Rutgers-Newark student-athletes, coaches, community members, faculty and staff to bring in canned good throughout the month and drop them off at The Golden Dome Athletic Center front desk.
 
All donations from the R-N community will go directly to the Saint John's Soup Kitchen in Newark just in time for the holiday season.
 
In the past New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) schools have raised nearly 100,000 cans for local charities and soup kitchens throughout the state. 'Cans Across the Conference' is a nationwide initiative done by Division I, II and III leagues across the country.
