By The Numbers | Elite 90 Winner Kevin McCandless

Update 11 - 12 p.m. - April 24 - The team arrived at The Golden Dome Athletic Center around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and everyone headed on their way home. Definitely wish the guys were able to play at least one more match, but I think the amazing season will come into a clear perspective on just how fantastic it was over the next few days. Congrats to Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball on a fantastic 2016 season.

Update 10 - 6 p.m. - April 23 - The Stevens Ducks topped the Scarlet Raiders by a score of 3-1 in the 'Elite 8'. SIT will take on New Paltz for a berth in the national title match. We have posted photos from the match and a complete match recap. You can access that by clicking here. It was an amazing 2016 season for Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball. A 24-4 record, a national ranking the entire season and the program's second-straight appearance in the NCAA 'Elite 8'. R-N also had three All-Americans, four All-CVC and thee Elite 90 winner for the whole tournament.

Update 9 - 11 a.m. - April 22 - Today is the Day! The Scarlet Raiders had a brunch from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Cayuga Room and are just relaxng before heading over to Nazareth College for their match against the Stevens Ducks. Not really much more to say other than I know everyone on the trip - administrators, staff, coaches and most importantly - the team - is fired up to play for a spot in the Final Four. Match starts at 3 p.m. and live coverage can be accessed at www.rutgersnewarkathletics.com, the men's volleyball schedule page and the NCAA Bracket.

Good luck to the guys and let's get a MONSTER #RUNwins!

Update 7 - 10 p.m. - April 21 - Solid little Day 2 of the trip for the Scarlet Raiders and all anyone can now think about is tomorrow's match with Stevens (as if that wasn't the case since last Monday's selection show). After practice at Nazareth, the guys came back to the hotel and had a pretty awesome lunch in the Cayuga Room ... it was so awesome we forgot to take a picture of the spread. Everyone relaxed for the rest of the afternoon before heading to the banquet. The guys looked sharp (#sockgamestrong, bowtieballers and powerties), ate some more good food, received some nice awards and headed back for a good night's sleep.

Awards ... Cody Chidsey and Jack Fredricks were honored with second-team AVCA All-America crystals ... Kevin McCandless was recognized as an honorable mention AVCA All-American and Kevin also became the first-ever Scarlet Raider to earn the Elite 90 Award. The Elite 90 is a BIG-TIME honor as Kevin is the student-athlete with the best GPA at the men's volleyball championship - the entire thing. Not only that, the Virginia native is a Computer Science major so his course load is no joke! Awesome stuff.

Please be sure to check out the photos from today's stuff and follow us on twitter (@ScarletRaiders). Also, check out the complete match preview and any of the links at the top of this running diary.

Update 6 - 10 a.m. - April 21 - The Scarlet Raiders woke up for a light breakfast at 8 a.m. at the hotel, hung for a few and then headed to Nazareth College for their official NCAA 55-minute practice. The team hit the court at 10 a.m. ad will practice to 10:55 a.m. Coach Trevino and some administrative staff will stay at Naz for an 11 a.m. meeting while the team heads back to Woodcliff. Check out some shots from Day 2 so far. Shout out to Naz for the posters of the teams and the AVCA All-Americans lining the hallways of the Shults Center's team entrance.

Update 5 - 8 p.m. - April 20 - After getting settled in the rooms, everyone met for dinner down in the Cayuga Room at the Woodcliff. Solid meal - some pasta, chicken, salad and dynamite apple cobbler/crumble (crumbler?). The guys then took a team shot and are now free to hang out until they go to sleep. Up early on Thursday for breakfast (8 a.m.) with the official pre-NCAA practice at Nazareth College set for 10 a.m. There will be an administrative meeting for Coach Trevino right after practice, and the banquet is Thursday night. Thanks for tuning in today and check back tomorrow around 10 a.m. for an update.

Update 4 - 6:15 p.m. - April 20 - The Scarlet Raiders have arrived at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Fairport, N.Y. where they will be staying throughout the NCAA Tournament. Pretty nice digs for the guys. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and we are hoping to get a group shot of the team at that time along with a few other shots.

Update 3 - 3:30 p.m. - April 20 - After practice, the team hopped back on the bus and Wegman's was the call for a place to eat (hat tip to senior Cody Chidsey). The guys all grabbed some food, but the biggest winners were Pedro Trevino (HC) and Jason Madsen (AC) who dominated their respective orders. Trevino ordered and ate the biggest Italian-style chicken finger sandwich ever made, and Madsen ate an entire - yes entire - roasted chicken with his hands (the person penning this update also ate an entire roasted chicken). Two hours 'till Rochester!

Update 2 – 1:30 p.m. – April 20 – The team stopped a little more than halfway to Rochester for a practice a Binghamton - who graciously hosted the Scarlet Raiders for a 90-minute session in the Bearcats' volleyball facility. Head Women's Basketball Coach Linda Cimino gave a tour of the facilities to Scarlet Raider Athletic Director Mark Griffin and NCAA Intern Erya Baez during the practice, and after our guys finished their workout, the Binghamton men's basketball squad was getting set to use the gym for individual drills. Big-time thanks to everyone at BU for hosting us.

Update 1 – 11 a.m. – April 20 – We are on the road! The team departed from The Golden Athletic Center at 10 a.m. Wednesday and is heading north. A stop at Binghamton University is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. for the team to practice, and before heading the rest of the way to Rochester, a lunch stop is in the cards.

The team will be staying at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Fairport, N.Y. with all NCAA Tournament matches taking place at Nazareth College (Shults Center). Naz is the host school.
