PITMAN, N.J. (August 24, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Preseason Poll, it was announced Wednesday morning.
The Scarlet Raiders are coming off the most successful season in program history, reaching the semifinals of the league tournament and advancing to the title match of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro/Upstate Championship for a second-straight year. R-N won a record 15 matches and went 3-2 in postseason play.
The College of New Jersey tops the poll, Rowan University is second, Montclair State University is third, Stockton University is fourth and Kean University is fifth. Each year, the top-six regular season NJAC records reach the conference tournament with the winner receiving the NJAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Rutgers-Newark has made the NJAC Tournament each of the last two years and advanced to the semis for the first time in 2016.
Rounding out the poll in spots 7-through-10 are Ramapo College, Rutgers University-Camden, William Paterson University and New Jersey City University.

The 2016 season kicks off in upstate-New York for the Scarlet Raiders as they take on St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University on September 2 and 3. The team will open the home portion of its schedule on September 7, welcoming St. Joe's – Brooklyn to Alumni Field.
The ladies will host the 2016 Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic on September 10 and 11, and will square off against Frostburg State University and Shenandoah University. The team's first NJAC match of the year will take place September 17 in Newark against Rutgers University-Camden.
