Champs! Men's Soccer Wins First-Ever NJAC Title
NEWARK, N.J. (November 6, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team - the 2017 New Jersey Athletic Conference Champions and owners of the most wins in the entire nation (20) - will surprisingly be on the road for the first weekend of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship, it was announced Monday by the national office.

The Scarlet Raiders (20-2-0) will be heading to Waltham, Mass. and Brandeis University for a Saturday matchup with Bowdoin College – an at-large selection from the New England Small College Athletic Conference – in the first round. Saturday's winner will square off with the winner of host Brandeis and Western Connecticut State University Sunday.

Rutgers-Newark is in the midst of a truly spectacular 2017 season, winning its first-ever NJAC Tournament title at sixth-ranked and top-seeded Rowan University on Saturday. The Scarlet Raiders' only two losses came at nationally-ranked Amherst College and at No. 6 Rowan during the regular season. The team was a perfect 11-0-0 at home, 9-2-0 on the road and held a ridiculously impressive plus-48 goal differential this season (58-10).

R-N will bring a five-match winning steak into the 2017 Tournament and the Scarlet Raiders already have the second-most wins in program history (21; 2016). It will be the fourth overall appearance for Rutgers-Newark and fourth in five years.

Bowdoin brings a 10-4-3 record into the tournament and is making its eighth appearance overall. The Polar Bears dropped a tough overtime decision to Middlebury College in NESCAC semifinals Saturday.
