CVC Semifinal Preview
NEWARK, N.J. (April 12, 2018) – Senior
Corey Pieper of the Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team was named first-team All-Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) it was announced Thursday afternoon by the league office.

Pieper has been a monster all season for the Scarlet Raiders, averaging 3.52 kills per set and 4.10 points per set.

Pedro Trevino. "He has worked incredibly hard and has done everything we have asked of him – not only this year, but his entire career. He has been a huge reason why we have been able to do what we have so far this season, and it's great to see him recognized."

Pieper is currently ranked 18th in the nation in points per set and 19th in kills per set, and he has been a highly efficient player for the Scarlet Raiders, converting at a .294 clip in 91 sets played.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Pieper twice was named the CVC Player of the Week, putting down double-digit kills in 16 different matches this year. He had a stretch of three-straight 23-plus-spike performances from March 13-24, and he has double-digit points and kills in 11 of the team's last 14 matches.

The all-around performer has four double-doubles in 2018 and is third among R-N regulars in blocks per set (.49) and second in digs per set (1.76). He leads the Raiders in service aces with 27, and he even played the part-time role of setter on several occasions this year, dishing out a season-high 22 in an upset of nationally-ranked New York University on Senior Night.

Pieper and the Scarlet Raiders will take on nationally-ranked No. 5 Marymount University in the conference semifinals Friday night at 8:30 p.m. in Harwood Arena (Kean University). With a win, Newark would play the winner of No. 3 Kean University and Eastern Mennonite University for the CVC title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship.
