Jackie Davis joined the Rutgers-Newark softball staff as an assistant coach in September of 2009 bringing a wealth of experience as a coach, clinician and player to Patty Clarke’s staff.

The New Jersey native comes to the Scarlet Raiders after serving for two seasons as an assistant at Suffolk University in Boston, Mass., where she helped the Rams to back-to-back GNAC playoff berths plus a 20-win season in 2009.

The Lyndhurst resident also has summer league coaching experience as the head coach of the Jersey City Blue Devils and as an assistant for the Jersey City RBI 18-U team. The RBIs took back-to-back regional crowns to advance to the 18-UWorld Series in 2008 and 2009.

Davis was a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American and a three-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Academic team member while lettering four times at Post University. The catcher was named the Eagles’ 2007 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, serving as the softball team captain during her senior season. Post reached the ECAC finals three times and earned CACC playoff berths in each of her four seasons.

She was a three-sport standout at nearby St. Dominic Academy, lettering in softball, soccer and basketball. Davis earned four letters each in softball and soccer. In softball, she was a two-year captain who led the team to a 26-4 record and an HCIAA title during her senior season, earning the Hudson County Invitational MVP in the process. She also was the squad’s rookie of the year as a freshman. In soccer, Davis helped St. Dominic to four HCIAA championships and was received the Coach’s Award as a senior. She also played on a pair of conference championship basketball teams.

Davis received her bachelor of arts in psychology from Post University in 2007 before earning master of education degrees in counseling – sport psychology in 2008 and coach education – exercise science in 2009 at Boston University.

Kayla Crager
Kayla Crager, Graduate Intern

 

The 2010 season will mark the first for Kayla Crager as the graduate intern for the Rutgers-Newark softball program. Crager will work primarily with the infielders.

Crager joins the Scarlet Raider staff after completing her softball playing career at Defiance College. The Marion, Ohio, native was a three-time All-Academic HCAC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete during her career.

She helped the Defiance softball team to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances as a junior and senior.

She graduated from Defiance in 2009 with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. Crager is pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice at Rutgers-Newark through the highly successful graduate intern program in the R-N Athletic Department.
