Graves Joins ECAC Qualifiers At NYU Fastrack Invitational

NEW YORK – Freshman Corey Graves qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships in the 500-meter dash to highlight Rutgers-Newark's showing in the NYU Fastrack Last Chance Invitational in the Armory.

Freshman shot putter Alisha Gray erased her own R-N record of 11.89 meters with a best effort of 11.97 on her final attempt to place sixth in a highly-competitive field of 18. Gray's classmates Danay Wood (11.17) and Naima Graham (11.11) placed 12th and 13 in the shot put. 

Graves bettered his own school record with a clocking of 1:07.45 to join the host of Scarlet Raiders who had already punched their tickets to the indoor championships. He finished 26th in a highly-competitive field of 37 runners. 

Freshman hurdler Kevon Brown, who had already qualified for the ECACs in the 55-meter hurdles, lowered his school record in the 60-meter hurdles to 8.58 to finish 17th in a field of 27. 

Rookie sprinter Saymah Nah was .07 off of her R-N record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.17 to finish 18th in a field of 31 runners predominately from NCAA Division I and II programs. 

Rutgers-Newark competes in the ECAC Indoor Championships hosted by Smith College in Northampton, Mass., on Friday and Saturday.
