Men's Soccer Highlights | NCAA Bracket
NEWARK, N.J. (November 16, 2016) – The 10th-ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team is heading to Amherst, Mass. for the 'Sweet 16' of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship this weekend and will square off with 22nd-ranked SUNY Oneonta Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on Hitchcock Field.
Here is some info we think is worth knowing…
High Water Rising: Rutgers-Newark brings a record of 20-3-0 into the weekend which is already three wins more than the previous high-water mark for single-season wins. The team's 13 shutouts are also a new program-record.
Shut it Down! The Scarlet Raider defense picked up back-to-back clean sheets last weekend in the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament, blanking New England College, 1-0, and Elizabethtown College, 2-0.
On Newark Soil: Rutgers-Newark won the first two NCAA games in Newark it has ever played last weekend, and as a university, Scarlet Raider teams are now 3-0 in national tournament games in the Brick City. Men's volleyball beat Endicott in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in April of 2015.
On Newark Soil II: The Scarlet Raiders compiled a home record of 9-1-0 on Alumni Field.
#ROADWARRIORS: Rutgers-Newark played 13-of-20 regular-season matches outside of Newark and went an impressive 11-2-0. The Raiders were 9-2-0 in true road matches and 2-0-0 in neutral site showdowns.
In the NCAA Tournament: Rutgers-Newark men's soccer is 3-2-0 all-time in NCAA Tournament games. The Raiders lost in the first round in 2013, advanced to the second round in 2014 and are playing in the third round in 2016. R-N has made the 'Big Dance' in three of the last four seasons.
Sound Smart: In NCAA Division III men's soccer, the third round of the NCAA Tournament is called the Sectional Round. The Scarlet Raiders play in the Sectional semifinals Saturday for a berth in the Sectional final Sunday against either Brandeis University or second-ranked Amherst College. We will be referring to it as the third round, the 'Sweet 16' and the Sectionals.
Honored by the NJAC: Freshman
Andres Medina was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday morning, and junior
Chigozie Atubi was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Back on September 10, R-N topped then-No. 22 Whitworth, and on October 15, the Scarlet Raiders rolled over previously unbeaten and nationally-ranked No. 3 Rowan University.
