Frederick Douglass Field (Softball)
Frederick Douglass Field is the home of Rutgers University-Newark's softball program.
The brand new artificial turf field was completed in September 2019 with state-of-the-art Coolplay which is a top dressing to deliver the same behavior and overall stability as FieldTurf's Elite system fields found in the world's most famous stadiums. Coolplay keeps the FieldTurf 20 degrees cooler than regular FieldTurf to allow more efficient training and higher level play during games. The infield is filled with FieldTurf's TripleThreat Natural turf which is filled with PureFill cork infill which is a natural infill that is environment friendly and non-toxic. It is a recyclable and sustainable product that is harvested from the cork oak tree every nine years, without harming the trees. The PureFill cork infield simulates the clay/dirt combo you find on traditional infields.
FieldTurf compared to natural grass leads to 33% fewer concussions, 25% fewer total injuries, 47% fewer substantial injuries, 15% fewer injuries due to player-to-surface collisions and 23% less time lost to injuries.
