MADISON, NJ – Senior midfielder Joe Tutalo (West Orange, NJ/West Orange HS) put away a penalty kick in the 36th minute for the lone goal as Rutgers-Newark downed FDU-Florham, 1-0.

Tutalo netted his fifth goal of the season in at 35:15, then the Scarlet Raiders (6-4-1) held on for the victory behind solid defense and a shutout victory in goal by freshman Matt Zielyk (West Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep). The Devils slipped to 5-5 overall in the non-conference clash.

Zielyk improved to 3-0-0 in goal, posting his second shutout with three saves.

The Raiders out shot FDU, 19-9, and served two more corner kicks, 6-4, than their host. Jared Drucker was the hard-luck losing goalkeeper, making eight saves.

Under first-year head coach Kevin East, Rutgers-Newark now has eclipsed its victory total of the 2006 season when the squad went 5-11-1.

The Raiders visit Kings' College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.
