NEWARK, NJ – Junior midfielder Jonathan Bilboa (Carteret, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) hammered a penalty kick into the left side of the goal in the 79th minute to give New Jersey City a hard-fought, 1-0, New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Rutgers-Newark under the lights on Alumni Field.

Raider freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Frances (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) made six saves, keeping Rutgers-Newark close with two spectacular stops. He smothered a point-blank shot on the play that drew the penalty kick, but he could not catch up with Bilboa's low, hard liner to the left side.
Bilboa's goal stood up despite several scoring chances by the Scarlet Raiders (8-6-1, NJAC 0-5-0) in the closing moments.
Gothic Knight freshman goalkeeper Andre Viola (Clifton, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) stopped two shots by Raider rookie forward Estiven Benetiz (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) in the 89th minute before watching a final-minute shot by freshman forward Jason Laing (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) bounce over the bar with just 28 ticks left. Viola made six saves to post the shutout.
The Gothic Knights out shot the Raiders, 19-11, but Rutgers-Newark had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
