NEWARK, NJ – Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Frances (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton HS) stopped six shots, but Ramapo scored twice in the opening 21 minutes to come away with a hard-fought, 2-0, New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer win on Alumni Field.

Freshman forward Giuseppe Trani (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Valley HS) and junior forward Ken Hussey (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) netted the goals and sophomore goalkeeper Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) made the them stand up with a shutout effort.
Trani knocked in a loose ball in front of the net just 2:49 into the contest after Hussey redirected a restart kick into the middle of the box by senior midfielder Raffaele Lauretta (Saddle Brook, NJ/Don Bosco). Hussey then took a cross into the right side of the box from Lauretta and fired a low shot inside the right post in the 21st minute to cap the scoring. Trani leads the Roadrunners (11-2-1, NJAC 4-2-1) with 10 goals while Hussey trails him with seven scores on the season.
Rutgers-Newark out shot the Roadrunners, 22-15, but Ramapo had one more shot on goal. The Raiders (9-8-1, NJAC 0-7-0) also posted a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
In a physical fray, officials whistled a total of 53 fouls and issued five yellow cards to each team.
On Saturday, Rutgers-Newark hosts William Paterson on Alumni Field on at 7 o'clock. Senior Joe Tutalo (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
