NCAA Box Score
Casper (7-8-1) was the difference as the Scarlet Raiders (9-9-1, NJAC 0-8-0) put three more shots on goal than the visitors. Each team took 13 shots with Rutgers-Newark also getting the edge in corner kicks, 6-4. Casper stopped a penalty kick by junior defender Dan Siconolfi (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) in the second half.
Freshman forward Daniel Sanchez (Prospect Park, NJ/Manchester Regional) netted the final two goals for the Pioneers (8-8-1) with the first one giving the visitors a 3-0 halftime lead. He knocked in a fumbled throw in pass in the 31st minute.
Freshman back Joe Strawman (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored what proved to be the game-winning in the eighth minute, putting away a loose ball off a throw in by junior back Josh Lenoff (Scotch Plains, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) which was redirected by freshman forward Danny Kusnic (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional).
Kusnic then headed in a corner kick from the far right side from freshman forward Dan Fulmer (Andover, NJ/Newton) in the 12th minute to put the Raiders in an early hole. Fulmer got an assist on Sanchez's final goal, crossing the ball from the right side to Sanchez near the left post.
Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Francis (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) made two spectacular saves, but they were the only ones he would record. Sophomore defender Luis Valle (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) made a kick save of what appeared to be a certain goal in the second half.
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, William Paterson hosts Kean while the Raiders host Richard Stockton in the final matches of the regular season for each team.
