Rutgers-Camden reserve freshman forward Turgut Kilicoglu (Giresun, Turkey/Burlington City) netted two goals and assisted on the other Scarlet Raptor tally in a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State (0-5-0) in the other first-round contest.
Rutgers-Camden (3-3-0) plays Centenary at 4 o'clock in Sunday's opening game while Rutgers-Newark squares off against Farmingdale State in the nightcap.
Guadagno took a ball just past midfield, then chipped the ball past a line of three Raider defenders to break a 2-2 tie. His header off a corner by freshman midfielder Daniel Charkowski (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) in the 37th minute gave the Cyclones (3-2-0) a 2-0 halftime edge.
Rutgers-Newark knotted the score on goals by junior forward Joe Caamano (Union, NJ/Union) and freshman forward Christien Vlahinich (Montvale, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) five minutes apart in the second half. The Raiders (3-1-1) out shot the Cyclones, 20-5, in the second half after each team had just five shots in the opening stanza.
A header off a corner kick by Vlahinich bounced off the bar with just five ticks left and the Raiders were left frustrated when the loose ball somehow stayed out of the goal in the closing frantic seconds.
Sophomore goalkeeper Damien Di Buono (Succasunna, NJ/Morris Catholic) made five save to post the win while Raider freshman keeper Jonathan Frances (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) had three saves in suffering the loss.
Kilicoglu scored a pair of breakaways on through passes in each half. He gave the Raptors a 1-0 halftime edge when he took a feed from junior midfielder Brad Gares (Burlington Township, NJ/Burlington Township) and raced to the left side of the box to score with exactly four minutes left. In the 82nd minute he sprinted to the right side with a through pass from sophomore midfielder Dom Crocetti (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). He also fed junior A.J. O'Malley (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) who rifled in a goal off the opposite post from the left side in the 55th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Brent Grunow (Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Regional) got the win with just three saves.
