Kean Muscles Past Scarlet Raiders

Kean 5, Rutgers-Newark 2

Junior forward Joe Caamano

UNION, NJ – Junior forward Joe Caamano (Linden, NJ/Linden HS) netted both Rutgers-Newark goals, but Kean came away with a physical, 5-2, New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer victory.

NCAA BOX SCORE

A breakaway goal by Caamano just two minutes into the fray gave the Scarlet Raiders the early lead, but Kean would answer with three first-half tallies to take control of the contest.

Caamano scored less than five minutes into the second half on a feed from sophomore midfielder Gilmar Colonia (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) to bring the Raiders to within a goal. But Kean responded with two goals during the next eight minutes to end the suspense.

Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Frances (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) made 10 saves – five in each half – to keep the Raiders in the battle.

In a match which featured 46 fouls and eight yellow cards, the Cougars (4-3-0, NJAC 2-0-0) held the upper hand in shots, 29-8, against the visiting Raiders (4-2-1, NJAC 0-1-0).

Rutgers-Newark will host Ramapo on an NJAC match on Alumni Field on Saturday at 7 p.m.
