Sophomore transfer Anne Olaya (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) continued her winning ways with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph in first flight singles match against Michelle Gbelama, while junior Monica Iturralde (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearly) defeated Sarah Cronholm in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Kelly Fitzsimmons (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) was awarded her third victory of the season in fourth flight singles after her opponent, Kristin Brown, retired due to injury, while freshman Jillian Dierenfield (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) recorded the Scarlet Raiders' lone shutout of the day in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Catherine Jacobs in fifth flight singles.
Rubinetti and Iturralde prevailed in their first flight doubles match against Gbelama and Brown, 8-2, while Olaya and Fitzsimmons edged out Cronholm and Amber Cicardo, 8-6, in second flight doubles.
Rutgers-Newark will open its 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, September 13, when they travel to Pomona, NJ to face league rival Richard Stockton.
