NEWARK, NJ – Despite strong performances from sophomores
Kelly Fitzsimmons (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) and
Anne Olaya (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic), Rutgers-Newark dropped its first match of the season, 9-0 to conference rival Richard Stockton.

Olaya and Fitzsimmons each pushed their Osprey counterparts to the brink, with a pair of super tiebreaker losses in first and fourth flight singles, respectively, with Olaya falling to senior
Christa Phillips, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, and Fitzsimmons losing 6-2, 4-6, 10-4, to junior
Christy Alexander.
The duo also accounted for the closest doubles match of the day, an 8-6 loss to Alexander and freshman
Ashley Boyd, in second flight doubles.
Rutgers-Newark will look to get back on track when they play host to Brooklyn College on Monday, September 15 at 4:30 pm.
