Scarlet Raiders Earn Second Straight With Win Over Richard Stockton

POMONA, NJ – Senior Youngor Kehleay (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) netted 11 points and matched a season-high with six assists to help Rutgers-Newark (10-10, 4-5 NJAC) to their second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference triumph with a 55-45 win over Richard Stockton (6-14, 2-7 NJAC).

Junior center Courtney Vacca (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) poured in a team-high 12 points while grabbing eight rebounds, while senior Bimpe Fageyinbo (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) tallied 11 points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds. Junior forward Renee Edwards (Montville, NJ/West Milford) rounded out the Raiders' list of double-digit scorers, managing 10 points on a perfect four-for-four day from the floor.

With the game deadlocked at five with just under 13 minutes remaining in the half, Fageyinbo buried a jumper to spark a 14-5 Scarlet Raider run to stake Rutgers-Newark to a 19-10 advantage at the 7:38 mark.

A jumper by Ospreys' junior forward Alyssa Reiter followed by a Kelley Guarrera triple would cut the Rutgers-Newark lead to four just shy of the six minute mark, but the Scarlet Raiders would finish the half strong, closing on a 14-3 run to take a 15 point lead into the break.

Rutgers-Newark would continue to wrestle control of the game early in the second, outscoring Richard Stockton 12-5 over the first 12 minutes of action to take a decisive 22 point lead.

Vacca, Fageyinbo and Kehleay combined for eight of the team's 12 points during the stretch, with Edwards capping off the run with a jumper at 8:36.

Vacca would give the Scarlet Raiders their biggest lead of the afternoon with a jumper at 5:16, putting the game out of reach and pushing the advantage to 23.

Guerrera lead all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while freshman center LaTonya Oliver grabbed a game-high 13 boards.

The Scarlet Raiders held the Ospreys to just 27.5% from the floor on 14-for-51 shooting, while holding a 43 to 33 rebounding edge.

Rutgers-Newark will look to make it three in a row when it travels to Mahwah, NJ to face league rival Ramapo on Wednesday, February 4.
