WBB Upended By William Paterson, 79-48

WAYNE, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders women's basketball squad shot 31.6% from the floor in the 79-48 fall to the Pioneers tonight in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.

Rutgers University-Newark (1-7, 0-4) dropped their sixth straight game tonight after they suffered 22 turnovers. Louise Ann Borja led the charge for the Scarlet Raiders with 11 points and seven rebounds. Syncere Lambert and Elisha India Cross each picked up a pair of steals while Lambert added 9 points. Comfort Akinbo secured two blocks in 22 minutes of action.

William Paterson University (4-5, 3-1) received 19 points from Madison Dulude on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. Yakira Rosa paced the Pioneers with 9 rebounds while Alisa Giordano tallied six steals and 11 points. 

The Scarlet Raiders started off the game with a 5-0 run which included a layup from Hannah Ashby and a three-point basket by Lambert. The Pioneers responded with a 13-0 run of their own. As the quarter wore on, William Paterson extended their lead to end the quarter with a 10 point lead. 

William Paterson locked down their defense in the second stanza which limited the Scarlet Raiders to just seven points.  In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders came out strong, scoring 15 points, however, William Paterson matched the intensity and had their highest output of the game with 26 points.

The Scarlet Raiders matched William Paterson with 11 points in the fourth quarter but the early deficit was too large to overcome.

Rutgers University-Newark returns to action on Saturday, December 14 at the Golden Dome at 6:00 pm where they host New Jersey City University in NJAC action.
