WBB Lose To NJAC Opponents NJCU On The Road, 58-45

JERSEY CITY, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders women's basketball team has officially been eliminated from the New Jersey Athletic Conference postseason tournament this afternoon after falling to NJAC rivals New Jersey City University, 58-45.

Rutgers University-Newark (3-17, 1-12) went just 2-for-25 from the floor which sealed their fate early on in this conference matchup. Hannah Ashby paced the team with 12 points after going 10-for-12 from the charity stripe. Ashby also led the team with 9 rebounds after being active on the boards. Syncere Lambert followed her up with 10 points and hit two of the teams' five three-point baskets. 

New Jersey City University (9-11, 6-7) was led by Dayjah Anderson's 13 points. Ayanna Lewis recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Sarah Edmond led the way with 12 boards. 

The Scarlet Raiders struggled in the first half, hitting just two basket's as they were stifled by the Gothic Knights' defense. Ashby did well to get in the painted region to draw fouls which sent her to the line to keep her team within reach of the Gothic Knights. 

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders were able to get their offense back on track as they tallied 29 second-half points after tallying just 16 in the first. 

A late 7-2 run by the Scarlet Raiders had the makings of a comeback but Rutgers-Newark ran out of time after cutting their deficit down to 13 after trailing by as much as 26. 

The women will return to action on Wednesday, February 6 when they host William Paterson University in another NJAC matchup.
