#RUNWSOC Has Their NJAC Tournament Hopes Crushed With 1-0 Loss To Montclair

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer program had their NJAC Tournament hopes crushed tonight at the hands of Montclair State, 1-0. The loss dropped the Scarlet Raiders to 9-5-3, 2-5-2 while moving the Red Hawks to 12-4, 7-2.

Earlier in the evening, Rutgers-Camden fell to Rowan to set up the possibility of the Scarlet Raiders sneaking into the sixth spot with a win over Montclair. After registering two shots in the first half and holding Montclair scoreless, the Scarlet Raiders went into the half with a sense of hope as their game plan was playing out perfectly.

Unfortunately, Montclair tightened their defense up in the second half and held the Scarlet Raiders to just one shot while their offense kicked it up a notch and recorded 12 shots. Of those 12 shots, one of them found the back of the net. In the 60th minute, Montclair converted a set piece from along the end line. Tara Lambert sent a low curling cross into the box that skipped by several players and found its way into the far left corner to put the Red Hawks up 1-0.

Down 1-0 and their postseason hopes solely in their hands, the Scarlet Raiders changed to a more offensive formation with the hope to level the game at one and send it into extra time. Although the Scarlet Raiders gained more possession in Montclair's half with the switch it didn't result in more shots as they were unable to register a shot on target in the game.

The Scarlet Raiders will now wait to see who they will face in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
