Howell's Extra Time Heroics Powers RUN Past FDU-Florham, 1-0

MADISON, NJ | Tamia Howell's extra-time heroics powered the Scarlet Raiders to a 1-0 win over FDU-Florham this afternoon to open their season 1-0 for the first time since 2017.

Rookie netminder, Gillian Reese was called upon seven times this afternoon and came away on top on all seven of them. Reese collects her first collegiate start as well as her first collegiate shutout in the win. Howell was precise this afternoon, putting four of her five shots on target with one finding the back of the net. Hope Davis, Camila Howard and Ava Dul were among the other starters to put a shot towards goal. Coming off of the bench for the Scarlet Raiders was Bailey Kellenberger who took two shots of her own while Grace Nya also took a shot.

The Scarlet Raiders were able to absorb wave after wave of attacks by the Devils as they rifled off 16 shots as a team and also edged out the Scarlet Raiders 5-2 on corner kicks.

After a stalemate ensued in regulation, extra-time began and that's where Howell would strike.  Newcomer, Mariana Valencia found Howell who was able to push it past the keeper to seal the deal for the Scarlet Raiders.

The women return to action on Wednesday when they host John Jay College at 4:00 pm at Frederick Douglass Field.
