#RUNSB Honors Lara, Capizzano & Scuralli on Senior Day Against William Paterson

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders took on William Paterson this afternoon at Frederick Douglass Field for their final New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader of the season.

Before the games, the Scarlet Raiders honored their seniors, Riley Scuralli, Michelle Capizzano, and Jackie Lara

Game 1: William Paterson 8, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 inn.)

Rutgers-Newark (13-18, 5-12) scattered two hits and committed three errors in the loss to the Pioneers. Lara and Scuralli picked up the two hits for the Scarlet Raiders, while, in the circle, Lara (6-10) hurled five innings and struck out six batters while allowing 10 hits.

William Paterson (15-21, 5-12) used 10 hits to plate 8 runs in the win. Bythrow and Weinberge each tallied two hits in the win.

The Pioneers used a five-run 2nd inning to open their scoring ledger and stretch their lead out over the Scarlet Raiders. After that inning, the Pioneers went dormant until the top of the 5th where they plated three more to activate the run rule to end the game in five innings.

Game 2: William Paterson 8, Rutgers-Newark 4

Rutgers-Newark (13-19, 5-13) scattered 9 hits in game two and scored four runs. Scuralli and Lara recorded two hits each while Megan Tomaselli paced the team with 2 RBIs. Michelle Capizzano (6-8) pitched seven innings and allowed 12 hits with six strikeouts.

William Paterson (16-21, 6-12) used 12 hits to score eight runs and played clean softball in the field. Weinberge tallied three hits while Gaskill led the team with 3 RBIs.

The Scarlet Raiders answered William Paterson's run in the opening stanza with a run of their own while Lara singled up the middle to score Scuralli. The Pioneer then jumped in front with runs in the 3rd and 4th before adding three to their tally. Rutgers-Newark answered with three runs in the 5th when Tomaselli doubled to right field to plate Scuralli and Lara. Capizzano gave the Scarlet Raiders another run when she singled through the left side to score Madison Umlauf.

The Pioneers then added two more in the 6th to keep the Scarlet Raiders from completing the comeback.
