Rutgers-Newark Softball Falls to No. 18 Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders softball team took on No. 18 Rowan this afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader. Rutgers-Newark fell in both games, 2-0 and 10-5, to move to 8-9, 3-3 while Rowan improved to 21-5, 6-0.

Game 1: Rowan 2, Rutgers-Newark 0

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Profs and Scarlet Raiders played a close 2-0 scoreline with Rowan holding off Rutgers-Newark. After two scoreless innings, Rowan used a sacrifice fly to plate a run before doubling their tally two innings later.

Emily August was in the circle for Rowan and held the Scarlet Raiders to one hit which came from pitcher, Jackie Lara.

Game 2: Rowan 10, Rutgers-Newark 5

Game two was a complete 180 from game one with lots of runs and hits. The Scarlet Raiders were led by Michelle McMillan who went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Alexis Claiborne and Riley Scuralli each added two hits.

The Scarlet Raiders used hits by McMillan and Lara to put runners on the bases before eventually using a wild pitch to plate their first run of the day. Rowan answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, however, the Scarlet Raiders answered with two in the top of the 2nd to tie the game up at three. Alex Di Martino scored the runs for the Scarlet Raiders with a 2 RBI double to right-center.

Rowan equaled Rutgers-Newark's run output in the bottom of the second with another pair of runs before exploding for four runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

Rutgers-Newark added two more runs between the 4th and 6th inning, however, it was not enough to keep up with Rowan's offense as the Scarlet Raiders were swept in NJAC play for the first time this season.
