Former Rutgers-Newark Public Address Announcer, Jim Hague, Dies at 62

NEWARK, NJ | Long-time Rutgers University-Newark Public Address announcer and feature story writer, Jim Hague, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the age of 62.

Outside of being the voice for the Scarlet Raiders, Hague was the sports reporter for The Observer newspaper for 20+ years while also reporting on sports for several other outlets throughout his incredible career. Hague truly embodied the sports reporter lifestyle and at one point he had 11 different jobs ranging from all levels of sports.

Hague's presence was felt all through the sports world in New Jersey and has touched the lives of so many athletes as he poured his heart and soul into each article he wrote.

"For me personally, I think back on Jim Hague, having him interview myself and my brother as we grew up, he became an all too familiar face," said Tom Krychkowski, Director of Athletic Communications. "I can still remember to this day the newspaper cutouts hung on our refrigerator about our accomplishments with the byline always reading, "by: Jim Hague".

The sports world truly lost an icon on Sunday and future generations will miss out on the opportunity of being interviewed by Jim. Hague's final game for Rutgers-Newark was for the men's basketball game in which he saw the Scarlet Raiders win the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship for the first time since 1996. That same night, unbeknownst to him, Hague was honored before the game as the entire Rutgers-Newark family showed their appreciation for everything he brought on a nightly basis.

Hague will live on through his featured articles you can still find on our website as will his voice on RaiderVision, our live streaming channel on YouTube.
