Newark, NJ – The Rutgers–Newark women's soccer team earned a solid 3–1 victory over Kean University on Tuesday night at Frederick Douglass Field, led by standout performances from Vielka Fernandez and Emily Karlicki, who combined for every point in the win.

Fernandez opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from Karlicki to give the Scarlet Raiders the early advantage. Kean evened the score early in the second half, but Rutgers–Newark wasted little time regaining control.

The duo combined again in the 60th minute, this time with Karlicki finishing off a pass from Fernandez to put Rutgers–Newark back on top. Karlicki later added her second of the night in the 82nd minute after pouncing on a rebound when Madison Gesualdo saved an initial shot from Avril Sibaja. The pair's connection proved to be the difference, as they accounted for all three goals and both assists on the evening.

Goalkeeper Shaina Sackett anchored the defense with four saves, helping keep the Cougars' offense in check and preserving the Scarlet Raiders' two-goal cushion down the stretch.

Behind their efforts, the Scarlet Raiders secured their second NJAC victory and move to 2-2-1 in conference play.  They will continue NJAC play this weekend as they travel to Ewing, NJ for a matchup with the TCNJ Lions.
