MAHWAH, N.J. – The Rutgers–Newark women's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 2-0 defeat to Ramapo College on Wednesday night. Despite controlling much of the match and outshooting the Roadrunners 17-9, the Scarlet Raiders couldn't find the back of the net. Emily Karlicki and Mariana Valencia each recorded four shots to lead the offensive effort, while Shaina Sackett finished the night with three saves in goal.
After a scoreless first half, Ramapo broke through in the 66th minute when Amber Maher converted to put the hosts ahead 1-0. Maher later added an insurance goal in the 85th minute to seal the win for the Roadrunners. Rutgers–Newark continued to push forward late but was unable to capitalize on its chances as Ramapo's goalkeepers combined for seven saves to preserve the shutout.
With the loss, the Scarlet Raiders are eliminated from NJAC playoff contention and move to 8-9-2 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play.
