Biography

A cornerstone of the inaugural seasons for cross country and track & field at Rutgers-Newark... school record holder in 6-K and 8-K cross country distances plus indoor and outdoor 800-meter run... All-NJAC first team as a member of the indoor 4 x 800-meter relay team which claimed Rutgers-Newark’s first conference championship at the 2009 meet. 

SENIOR (2008-2009): CROSS COUNTRY: Clocked top two times in R-N history in both the 6-K and 8-K, topped by a school-record 27:16.74 8-K in the NJAC Championship Meet (11/1/2008)... ran a 20:32.96 5-K at the CTC Championships (10/18/2008) to set lowered the school mark at that distance... turned in three of the best five times in school history in the 8-K, including a 27:30.80 at the Cabrini Invitational (10/11/2008) which is the second best mark... clocked a 20:34.46 6-K at the Osprey Open (9/27/2008) which set a school record at the time...INDOORS: Earned All-NJAC honors by finishing second in the 800-meter run in a school-record time of 1:56.01 at the NJAC Indoor Championships (2/23/2009)... ran anchor leg of 4 x 800-meter relay team which posted a school-record 8:01.26 to claim the program’s first NJAC Indoor Championship event title (2/23/2009)... finished his career with four of the five lowest times posted in the indoor 800... also set school record in 5000-meter run with a 17:08.84 time at the CTC Indoor Relay Carnival (12/7/2008)... OUTDOORS: Set R-N record with a time of 1:56.84 in the NJAC Outdoor Championships (5/2/2009), lowering his own school mark... finished his career with three of the top five times in the 800 as well as three of the top six times in R-N history in the 1500... ran third leg on 4 x 400-meter relay team which ran a 3:25.52 at the ECAC Outdoor Championships to post the second best time in program history. 

JUNIOR (2007-08): CROSS COUNTRY: Top Raider finisher in all five meets that he competed in during the inaugural season... set school records at both the 8-K and 6-K during a season interrupted by leg injuries... set school record in the 8-K with a 28:56.08 time at the Highlander Open in Newark’s Branch Brook Park (10/7/2007)... set 6-K standard with a 21:09 in the CTC Championships (10/27/2007)... INDOORS: Set school record in the 800 run with a1:57.68 clocking at the NYU Fastrack Invitational (2/29/2008) to qualify for the ECAC Indoor Championships... ran second leg on R-N record setting 4 x 400-meter relay team which posted a 3:27.81 at the NYU Fastrack Invitational (2/29/2008)... ran third leg on 4 x 800-meter relay team which qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships with a time of 8:05.32 in the NJAC Indoor Championships (2/25/2008)... OUTDOORS: Established R-N records in the 800 and 1500... qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships in the 800 with a 1:57.38 clocking at the Lions Invitational (4/25/2008)... set an R-N record with a 4:04.53 time in the 1500 in the NJAC Outdoor Championships (5/5/20-08)... ran the anchor leg on 4 x 800-meter relay team which logged an R-N record time of 8:15.99 at the Penn Invitational (4/5/2008). 

HIGH SCHOOL: All-state, all-county and all-shore pick in both indoor and outdoor track at Jackson Memorial HS under coach Jason Griffith… set school mark of 15:30 for the 5-kilometer run… also member of record setting 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relay teams for the Jaguars… track team MVP and school’s outstanding male student-athlete as a senior.

PERSONAL: Transferred to Rutgers-Newark from Mississippi State in the spring of 2007 before the Scarlet Raider track program was announced… he participated in cross country and track & field for one season at Mississippi State… a criminal justice major… son of Linda and Sam Bahamondes who has one younger brother.
