A key member of three Scarlet Raider women's basketball teams, Bimpe Fageyinbo returns to Rutgers-Newark as the program’s graduate intern.
The former perimeter standout played for Kevin Morris from 2006 through 2009 after a season at the County College of Morris, helping the Raiders to three straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament berths.
She received her undergraduate degree in journalism from Rutgers-Newark in 2009 and is currently pursuing a master of arts in English. She has already embarked on a career as a writer.
She averaged 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as a three-year starter while totaling 111 steals and 96 assists on team which combined for a 46-34 record and a pair of ECAC Metro Championship playoff berths.
In her first season in Scarlet & Black, she averaged 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds to help the Raiders finish with a 16-11 record, earn the team’s first win in NJAC tournament history (51-50 over Richard Stockton) and gain an ECAC Metro playoff berth.
During her junior season, she averaged 5.6 points and 4.7 rebounds as the Raiders posted a fine 19-8 record and returned to both the NJAC and ECAC Metro tournaments.
As a senior, she upped her averages to 8.3 points and 6.6 rebounds while collecting 47 steals and 40 assists for the 11-16 Raiders who garnered an NJAC playoff slot.
At Parsippany Hills High School, Fageyinbo earned four letters each in basketball and track, gaining notice on All-Morris County, all-area and all-conference teams in each sport.
She served for the past two years as the assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach for the girls’ basketball teams at Parsippany Hills.
Fageyinbo played for two seasons at Rutgers-Newark with her sister, Eni, who is now the women’s basketball head coach at Berkeley College in Woodland Park and married to former Raider men’s volleyball all-star Brian Honsberger, who is the women’s and men’s volleyball head coach at Berkeley.
