In her eleventh season as a Scarlet Raider assistant, Theresa Hrubash has been a key to the program's resurgence through her strong high school recruiting contacts and a solid basketball background.

She came to Rutgers-Newark following a six-year stint as head girls basketball coach at Nutley High School. Hrubash started her coaching career in 1982 as an assistant at Montclair State where she also served as head junior varsity coach. From 1985 through 1988, she coached the Nutley 7th and 8th grade travel team. She moved to Boonton High School in 1988 as an assistant coach before being elevated to head coach in 1990. Boonton went 40-12 during her two season at the helm, winning the Morris County championship in 1991.

Hrubash served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Fairleigh Dickinson-Teaneck from 1992 to 1994. She went to Roselle Park High School in 1994 as an assistant coach, moving into the head coaching slot a season later. She led the 1995-96 team to a 12-10 record, qualifying for the Union County and state tournaments.

She helped Fordham University to a No. 19 national ranking and an Eastern Regional title in 1979 as a player. A 4-year letterwinner, she was the team's MVP in her junior season and was named the team captain as a junior and senior. She finished her career on Rose Hill at No. 5 on the career assist list.

At Nutley High School, Hrubash was an all-state, all-area, All-Essex County basketball player. She helped Nutley to a Group 4 state championship as a junior. The team also took back-to-back Essex County and Group 4, Section 2 titles in 1976 and 1977. Those two teams went a combined 54-2. A team captain in both her junior and senior seasons, Hrubash played in the first annual North-South All-Star Game for girls basketball in 1978. She also was valedictorian of her senior class.

Hrubash was inducted into the Nutley High School Hall of Fame in January 1991 as a basketball and softball player.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in public accounting from Fordham in 1982 and added a certificate in business education from Montclair State University in 1987. Hrubash is a business education teacher at Nutley High School.
