  • Title
    Women's Soccer Assistant Coach
Fredy Guiran, a former Seton Hall assistant coach, a Colombian professional player and a Kean University All-American, begins his first year on the staff of Bill Bustamante.

The Clifton, NJ, resident brings a wealth of knowledge to every facet of the program from area recruiting to skills coaching.

Guiran served as an assistant at Seton Hall coaching staff for the past three seasons.

Guiran, a two-time first team NSCAA All-American (1991 and 1992) at Kean University, is the Cougars career leader in points (184), goals (72) and assists (36) in just three seasons. He helped Kean make three consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances capped by a National Championship in 1992 to cap his career. Rutgers-Newark head men’s soccer coach Kevin East was the goalkeeper on those squads.

He still ranks first in the Kean record book for goals in a season (31 in 1992) while sharing second place with 29 goals in 1991). He twice posted 74 points in a season (1991 and 1992) – the second most productive seasons on the Cougar books. His 16 assists in 1991 are the second highest season total for the school.

He was named both the NJAC Male Athlete of the Year and the NJAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year in 1991 after being tabbed the 10-team conference’s Rookie of the Year in 1990. He was a second team NCSAA All-Regional selection as a freshman before gaining first team status as a sophomore and junior. Guiran was the College Soccer Association of New Jersey (CSANJ) Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992 while earning first team honors on that all-state team in all three of his varsity seasons.

He returned to his native Colombia to play in the top professional league where he played for eight teams in 10 seasons, tallying 55 goals.

In 1998, Guiran’s team reached the Copa Libertadores Cup, the South American tournament deciding the continents’ top professional team.

Guiran returned to New Jersey in 2003 where he coached at the youth level.
