Wojtek Krakowiak

OFFICE PHONE: (973) 353-1627

Wojtek Krakowiak was named the head women’s soccer coach at Rutgers-Newark in November of 2007.

Krakowiak, the 1998 Hermann Trophy recipient as the top NCAA Division I men’s soccer player in the nation, served this past fall as an assistant for the Scarlet Raider men’s squad under coordinator of soccer operations/head men’s soccer coach Kevin East.

“Wojtek is a great addition to our developing women’s soccer program,” East stated. “He brings a lot of knowledge from his days as a high-level player that he has been able to translate into his coaching skills. He possesses solid leadership qualities that I think make the future very bright for our women’s program.”

Krakowiak, a native of Poland who played high school soccer at Clifton High School, went on to St. John’s University and Clemson University. He won national rookie of the year honors at St. John’s after helping the Red Storm to the 1996 NCAA Championship. He scored 31 goals, earning First Team All-America honors and the Hermann Trophy in his junior season after transferring to Clemson.

He also played MLS (Major League Soccer) for San Jose and Tampa Bay before injuries cut short his professional playing career.

He coached with some local soccer clubs, as well as Kent Place in Summit (girls’ soccer) and Wayne Valley (boys’ soccer) before latching on with the Scarlet Raider programs in August of this year.

Krakowiak, who has finished his degree sports management at St. John’s University, works as a real estate in Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties.

Krakowiak becomes the fifth head coach in the short eight-year history of the program.
