Jason Madsen has virtually rebuilt the Scarlet Raider women's volleyball program in just two seasons. Back-to-back recruiting classes now account for 15 of the 16 players listed on this season's roster.
He was appointed the Rutgers-Newark head coach in May of 2012 after serving as an assistant men's volleyball coach under first-year head coach Pedro Trevino during the spring semester.
He began his head coaching career by leading the Scarlet Raiders to a winning season and into post-season play for the first time since 2006. The squad went 15-13 and earned a berth in the 2012 ECAC Metro Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Born, raised and currently living in Plainfield, he was an all-county and second-team all-state performer in volleyball at St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen before playing one varsity season at Ramapo College. He served as assistant coach at St. Joseph’s from 2006 to 2011.
Madsen earned a bachelor of arts in communications from Richard Stockton College in 2009 and added a master’s in sports administration from Fairleigh Dickinson in 2011.
He plans to pursue a career in collegiate athletic administration while striving to help promote and develop volleyball at all levels in New Jersey.
