NEWARK, NJ – Freshman forward Samantha Yock curled a long shot from the left side off the far post with just 2:27 left to help Kean survive a late rally, 3-2, by Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer match on Alumni Field.

Yock's goal gave the Cougars (5-2-0, NJAC 1-1-0) a 3-1 lead and proved to be the game winner as Scarlet Raider senior midfielder Alison Phillips (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) headed in a through pass from sophomore midfielder Tanya Groszew (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) just 59 seconds later to fuel a frantic final minute and a half of play.
Kean freshman goalkeeper Leandra Russo got her first career victory, stopping three Rutgers-Newark shots.
An unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Jenna Godwin and a breakaway tally by senior forward Michelle Fischer on a leading feed from Yock in the final five minutes of the opening half gave the Cougars a 2-0 edge.
Junior midfielder Megan Elliott (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) headed in a loose ball off a corner kick from Groszew to put Rutgers-Newark (3-4-1, NJAC 0-1-1) on the board in the 71st minute.
Kean held a commanding 18-5 edge in shots, forcing Raider senior goalkeeper Katie Hastings (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) to make six saves.
Rutgers-Newark visits Ramapo on Saturday at 1 p.m. for an NJAC contest while Kean visits Rutgers-Camden in another league clash at the same time.
