Scarlet Raiders Fall To Rowan In Three

NEWARK, NJ – Junior outside hitter Rose Anna Beljour (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) paced the Scarlet Raiders (2-22, NJAC 1-6) with five kills, seven digs and an ace, but Rowan earned a 25-9, 25-11, 25-21, New Jersey Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory over Rutgers-Newark in The Golden Dome.

Freshman outside hitter Toni Moppert (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) added four kills, eight digs and an ace. Junior setter Christina Francisco (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) tallied 10 assists and eight digs.

Seniors Theresa Pecoraro and Alexis Louis posted eight kills apiece to pace Rowan.

The Profs (12-15, NJAC 4-3) hit a solid .218 as a team behind Pecoraro's .467 percentage (8 kills, 1 error, 15 attacks) and junior middle blocker Chelsea Bowman's .312 (6-1-16). Pecoraro added four of the Profs' eight aces while junior setter Chrissy McKay ran of offense with 15 assists while adding eight digs.

After Rowan dominated sets one and two, the Raiders stayed close in the third frame.  A kill by sophomore middle blocker Crystal Navarro (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) follow by an ace by Moppert knotted the score at 21-21 before the Profs got kills from Bowman, Louise and Pecoraro mixed in with a Raider ball handling error to close out the match.

Rutgers-Newark closes out its home slate on Saturday hosting Manhattanville and Marywood in a tri-match.  The Raiders take on Manhattanville at 11 a.m. to kick off the day in The Golden Dome.
