NEWARK, NJ (April 6, 2008) – Senior second base Shauna Gallagher collected three hits, but she was the only Rutgers-Newark player to hit safely in both games of an 8-2 and 10-0 doubleheader loss to FDU-Florham on Alumni Field.

Senior third baseman Tara Hulse went five for nine with three runs batted in to pace the Devils (17-7). FDU out-hit the Scarlet Raiders (3-21), 27-11, on the day with senior Katlyn Smith improving to 5-2 on the year with six innings of seven-hit pitching in the opener. Junior Jen Karl provided a shutout seventh inning in the game.
In game two, winner Julie Hartnett and freshmen Shaina Bradley and Kaitlyn Nowikow combined for a four-hit shutout.
In game one, senior rightfielder Leah Minnick had an RBI double in the two-run fourth and a solo home run to left to ignite a five-run sixth inning for FDU. Senior second baseman Kristin Loriot went three for four with an RBI single in the sixth while Hulse was two for four with an RBI single in the fourth.
Gallagher went two for four for Rutgers-Newark. Gallagher and freshman first baseman Shannon Davis had back-to-back one-out singles in the first inning before losing pitcher Elena Morge stroked an RBI single to right and senior shortstop Charlotte Labate delivered an sacrifice fly to right to stake the Raiders to an early 2-0 lead.
In game two, Hulse, junior first baseman Christina Fabian and sophomore shortstop Marysa Cole had RBI singles during a five-run first-inning outburst.
Hulse went three for five and added an RBI single in the four-run seventh inning while Fabian collected three hits and scored twice. Sophomore rightfielder Cole, Hartnett and Meghan Zaccardi collected two hits apiece for the Devils.
Gallagher, freshman centerfielder Jessica Zelaya and junior first baseman Carrie McGuire had infield singles for the Raiders before freshman third baseman Ashley Angeli got a two-out single to right centerfield in the seventh.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Kean in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 o'clock while FDU-Florham hosts Richard Stockton on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
