FARMINGDALE, NY – Rutgers-Newark dominated play in the second half and shut down Farmingdale State's attack following a goal in the fourth minute to post a 3-1 win in men's soccer.

Sophomores Jeff Vazquez (New Milford, NJ/New Milford HS) and Estiven Benitez (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) and senior Joe Caamano (Linden, NJ/Linden) scored second-half goals as the Scarlet Raiders (4-2-0) out-shot the Rams, 10-1, after intermission to forge an 18-5 gap during the 90 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Perdelwitz (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) gave up a rebound goal to Thomas Mueller just four minutes into the match, but he improved to 3-2, needing just two first-half saves behind a dominating performance by the Raider midfielders and defenders.
Vazquez scored his third goal of the season on a feed from Caamano less than three minutes into the second period to knot the score before Benitez scored what proved to be the game winner in the 54th minute with a shot over the keeper. It was Benitez's first goal of the season and his first game winning goal in Scarlet & Black.
Caamano then took a feed from Benitez and knocked in the insurance tally in the 76th minute for his second goal of the season.
Ram goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins made seven saves to keep things close.
