Scarlet Raiders Settle For Tie At Albright

Rutgers-Newark Women's Soccer

Liana Abreu
READING, PA – Rutgers-Newark dominated play but had to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Albright College in a non-conference women's soccer match.

Rutgers-Newark 0, Albright 0 (2OT)

The Scarlet Raiders (5-7-1) settled for a stalemate in their first overtime match of the season while the Lions (3-6-2) posted their second double-overtime draw against an overtime loss. It was the first shutout for Rutgers-Newark in seven matches.

Sophomore midfielder Liana Abreu put three shots on goal in the opening eight minutes of the second half as Rutgers-Newark outshot the Pride, 13-7. But Albright goalkeeper Olivia Giuliano notched seven saves to offset the disparity.

Raider sophomore goalkeeper Kat Renteria made three saves to post her second complete-match shutout.

The Raiders dominated the defensive half with sophomore Jessica Gavilanes and junior Sasha Potter spearheading the effort.

Rutgers-Newark had the last clear chance to score in the 108th minute when a cross went through Giuliano's hands and into the path of junior Angela Neves. Neves' shot at the open net was high.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Medgar Evers at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field on Friday.
