MAHWAH, NJ – Rutgers-Newark got off only eight shots against a tough Ramapo defense as the Scarlet Raiders fell, 5-0, to the Roadrunners in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for each squad.

Sophomore midfielder Stefani Uthman put two shots on goal and sophomore forward Amanda Moursy added the only other Raider effort that made Roadrunner goalkeeper Jessica DaRold work for her shutout victory. All three Rutgers-Newark shots on goal came during the opening half.

Ramapo (5-2-0, NJAC 1-0-0) got goals from five different players while outshooting the Raiders, 19-8. The Roadrunners constructed an 8-0 edge in corner kicks, and five of their eight shots on goal got past sophomore goalkeeper Kat Renteria.

Rutgers-Newark (4-4-0, NJAC 0-1-0) hosts NJAC foe Montclair State on Alumni Field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
